Bull goring kills ganadero Santiago Barrero San Román in Beas de Segura

Ganadero Santiago Barrero San Román, 33, died Friday afternoon in Beas de Segura (Jaén) after being gored by a bull during the ensogados bull festivities of San Marcos.

Santiago Barrero San Román, owner of Toros de San Román ranch with his wife Vanesa, suffered severe injuries around 19:00 when a bull charged him during the ensogados bulls event, declared Andalucía Tourist Interest Festivals.

The abdominal, inguinal, and thoracic wounds were so grave that, despite urgent intervention at the medical tent on San Marcos esplanade, the team could not stabilize him. He died around 20:00 while being transferred to a hospital, as reported by the San Marcos Brotherhood and Beas de Segura Town Hall.

The Lidia Cattle Breeders Association expressed regret on social media: “We deeply regret announcing the sad loss of our young ganadero Santiago Barrero San Román, who died today April 24 from a fatal goring in Beas de Segura.” The El Toro de Madrid Association also sent condolences to the family.

Barrero was grandson of breeder Antonio San Román and had founded his ranch in 2022 with Torrestrella-line cattle in Villamanrique (Ciudad Real). Friday's events were suspended, but Saturday will proceed with a minute of silence in his memory.
