Iván Cepeda, Abelardo De La Espriella and their running mates exercised their right to vote on Sunday in different cities during the presidential runoff election day.
Aida Quilcué, running mate of Cepeda, voted at Colegio San Bartolomé in central Bogotá. From there she stated that “lo más bonito de Colombia es que haya una decisión libre y que todos ejerzan la democracia de manera pacífica”.
Iván Cepeda cast his vote at Colegio San Lucas in the Kennedy locality, also in Bogotá. Abelardo De La Espriella, meanwhile, voted around 8:40 a.m. at Colegio La Enseñanza in Barranquilla, accompanied by family and a security detail. Before depositing his ballot he showed the marked ticket in favor of his own candidacy.
José Manuel Restrepo, De La Espriella’s running mate, voted at Universidad EAN in northern Bogotá with his family. He urged Colombians to participate and protect their votes amid risks such as vote buying. More than 41 million people were eligible to vote in this round.
