The Clúster de la Industria de Automoción de Catalunya (CIAC) has announced its intention to go on the offensive to establish the region as an electromobility hub in southern Europe.
At the Míting d'Auto meeting, CIAC president Josep Maria Vall said the sector is moving from a defensive stance to an offensive one. “We are in the perfect storm and it has not yet calmed down,” Vall acknowledged, while stressing the sector’s ambition.
The automotive industry supports 150,000 jobs in Catalunya and includes more than 300 industrial companies, according to Xavier Roca, director general of Industry at the Generalitat. Investments in zero-emission mobility aim to reduce external dependence and attract capital.
Vicenç Aguilera of Ebro highlighted the reindustrialization of the former Nissan plant in Barcelona. Modesto Martínez of Indra Land Vehicles proposed alliances with the defense sector for diversification through dual-use technology, with contracts worth 7.5 billion euros.
