Catalonia's government has requested Military Emergency Unit assistance again for two simultaneous forest fires that have forced the confinement of around 40,000 people.
Catalonia's firefighters are tackling three simultaneous forest fires on Monday in Sentmenat, the Anoia region and Artesa de Segre. The Anoia blaze has affected at least 400 hectares and forced the confinement of 33,000 people, bringing the total number affected to 40,000.
Firefighters chief David Borrell said the goal is to avoid operational collapse and protect people. A unified command center has been activated in Bellaterra, where Interior Minister Núria Parlon has traveled.
The government has requested assistance from the UME military unit, with the first teams arriving from Zaragoza, mainly for the Anoia area. The fires occur amid a heat wave and with Plan Alfa level 4 activated in 45 municipalities.
