The forest fire that began Friday in La Bisbal d'Empordà has burned more than 2,300 hectares and remains active, though it is now considered stabilized.
Interior Minister Núria Parlon announced at 22:00 on Saturday that the fire is no longer growing and that sufficient resources are available to contain it. Generalitat Fire Chief David Borrell noted that the perimeter is irregular and that full control will take several days.
The fire, which started Friday around 9:00 due to the use of a radial saw on a roadside, affected seven buildings in Calonge, four of them burned to the ground. Nine municipalities remain under confinement and access to the Les Gavarres massif is closed until 10 July.
More than 400 firefighters, a hundred UME personnel and aerial units have been deployed. Salvador Illa visited the site and activated level 4 of the Plan Alfa due to extreme fire risk.
