Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay reviewed the Koyambedu tertiary treatment reverse osmosis plant on Monday.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay reviewed the operation of the tertiary treatment reverse osmosis plant at Koyambedu, which treats 45 million litres of sewage a day.
Chennai Metrowater operates two such facilities in Koyambedu and Kodungaiyur with a combined capacity of 90 million litres daily. The plants further purify treated sewage for industrial use and ease pressure on freshwater sources.
The facilities reduce groundwater extraction and support recycled water in construction, including ready-mix concrete plants, according to a press release. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Additional Chief Secretary, and Metrowater Managing Director T. Anand attended the review.
