Chinese national admits to illegal gun possession in Mombasa

Chinese national Ling Yao Zheng, wanted by Tanzania for murder, has pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm and bullets, as well as assaulting a woman in Mombasa. He was found with a CZ P-10 C pistol and 13 rounds without a permit, with the case set for mention on January 19.

Ling Yao Zheng, a 42-year-old Chinese national, has pleaded guilty to two charges in Mombasa court. He is wanted by Tanzanian authorities for allegedly shooting and killing another 26-year-old Chinese citizen on June 11, 2022, at an apartment on the third floor of a building on Kalenga Road, Ilala, Dar es Salaam.

In the Kenyan case, Zheng was accused of committing the offenses while hiding in the Likoni area. The court was told he possessed a CZ P-10 C pistol loaded with 13 bullets without a license. Additionally, he was charged with shooting and causing bodily harm to Jane Wambuga Mulei on December 10, 2025, at Shelly Beach in Likoni.

Prosecution presented evidence confirming these violations. The case is scheduled for further mention on January 19 to proceed with legal proceedings. This situation highlights international challenges in handling cross-border crimes involving foreign nationals in the coastal region.
