A combine harvester caught fire during harvest work in Landkreis Nordwestmecklenburg. The blaze also spread to parts of a grain field and caused damage estimated at half a million euros.

Emergency crews found the harvester and around 3.5 hectares of field already ablaze upon arrival in the municipality of Klein Schwansee. About 150 responders worked to extinguish the fire.

Spectators temporarily hindered operations. One female firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. Criminal police are investigating on suspicion of negligent arson.
