The Texas Rangers have placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list due to lower back inflammation. The move comes after Seager experienced minor back spasms that kept him out of recent games. Utilityman Michael Helman has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to fill the roster spot.
The announcement was made on Monday in Denver. Manager Skip Schumaker explained the decision, noting that backs can be tricky and the team wanted to avoid missing significant time. Seager had been given a scheduled off day on Friday following a career-worst 0-for-27 skid before waking up with spasms that sidelined him for Saturday and Sunday games against the Astros.
