This Sunday marks the deadline to register lists competing for the presidency of Frente Amplio. The election will take place in early August.
Different party factions are assessing alliances amid talks for a consensus list or internal competition. The main candidacies point to current president Constanza Martínez and deputy Gael Yeomans.
Martínez, from the Desbordar lo Posible faction, has support from figures including former president Gabriel Boric and deputy Gonzalo Winter. Yeomans, from the Con Fuerza y Esperanza faction, is in talks with Diego Ibáñez's sector to form a list headed by her and Simón Ramírez as general secretary.
The current board, which also includes Andrés Couble, seeks to continue the process. Martínez stated: “Veo un partido muy unido y, en esta elección, si bien puede haber competencia, que me parece sana, vamos a asumirla con un nivel de fiato y de unidad”.
