Patricio Quisbert of Lista B won the Partido de la Gente (PDG) internal elections this weekend, replacing current leader Rodrigo Vattuone. Preliminary results await ratification by the party's Tribunal Supremo. Quisbert highlighted support from the base and urged strengthening membership amid low turnout.
Following a day of internal elections, Lista B led by Patricio Quisbert secured the majority in the Partido de la Gente (PDG), according to preliminary results. The leader announced his victory and praised Rodrigo Vattuone's gesture, who called to acknowledge the outcome. “According to unofficial results, our Lista B has obtained the majority. I receive this support with humility, but also with a deep sense of responsibility,” Quisbert stated.
The vote called on over 43,000 militants and determined not only the national leadership but also regional directorates in Coquimbo, Aysén, and Magallanes, plus 11 youth directorates. Low turnout was a key issue, however. “We know participation was low, and we don't ignore that. It's a clear signal that we must open the party, call for more involvement,” Quisbert said.
Deputies Fabián Ossandón and Patricio Briones, set to assume vice presidencies, commended Vattuone's maturity and blamed low attendance on confusions like the 'Franco Parisi 2030' theme. Ossandón noted: “That gesture speaks of maturity, respect, and a party that understands there is a common project.”
This leadership shift occurs amid tensions over PDG's congressional role, where its 16 deputies backed the deal to legislate the government's Reconstrucción Nacional megarreforma, in exchange for keeping the 12.5% rate for SMEs and IVA refunds on diapers and medicines.
