Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has said the Mount Kenya region will support President William Ruto's 2027 re-election bid even without Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on the ticket.
Speaking in an NTV interview on Monday, July 27, Ruku said the choice of running mate is the President's prerogative. He added that Kenya Kwanza supporters should respect Ruto's decision no matter whom he selects.
Ruku noted that he personally supports retaining Kindiki, citing the Deputy President's strong performance as the President's principal assistant. The remarks come hours after the Orange Democratic Movement endorsed Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya as Ruto's running mate.
Ruku maintained that the Mount Kenya region, especially Mt Kenya East, would rally behind Ruto regardless of any changes to the 2027 ticket.
