Disney and Pixar presented exclusive footage from Toy Story 5 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, showing Woody and Buzz confronting a new digital threat to the toys. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, voicing Woody and Buzz, joined the stage to introduce the scenes. The film is set for release on June 19.
At CinemaCon on Thursday, Disney shared two scenes from Toy Story 5 with theater owners. In the footage, the toys face obsolescence as their owner, Bonnie—voiced by Scarlett Spears—becomes engrossed in Lilypad, a frog-faced tablet voiced by Greta Lee that enables chat groups and interactive games. The toys, including Jessie, attempt to intervene but struggle against the device's features, which replay pleas in Spanish and rap form. Desperate, they send an SOS to Woody, who returns paunchier and balder, wearing a Western-style poncho. Buzz Lightyear feels sidelined, leading to a clash between the friends over who will save the toys from digital extinction. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen took the stage together for the first time at the event to debut the footage. Allen quipped, “We looked at a video of us doing the first one—we look like our grandchildren.” Hanks added that he appeared to be in “junior high school” in behind-the-scenes footage from the original 1995 film. Directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 features returning voices like Joan Cusack, along with newcomers Tony Hale and Conan O’Brien. The extensive cast includes Craig Robinson as Atlas, a GPS hippo toy, and Keanu Reeves reprising Duke Caboom. The franchise has grossed over $3 billion globally. The film arrives in U.S. theaters on June 19.
