TNA Wrestling has granted Eric Young's request for his release from the company, effective immediately. The veteran wrestler, who had been with the promotion for much of the past two decades, confirmed the news in a public statement on July 1, 2026.
TNA issued a statement confirming the release of the two-time former TNA World Champion. "TNA Wrestling has come to terms on the release of Eric Young, effective immediately," the statement read. "EY has had a legendary TNA career, including twice as TNA World Champion. We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Young addressed the development on social media, stating he initiated the request. "1. I asked for my release! They granted it! 2. I was never on a handshake deal. I have had a binding contract the entire time! 3. I will work where I want how I want and for whom I want!" he wrote.
Young's most recent match occurred at the Countdown to Slammiversary, where he lost to Ricky Sosa. He had returned to TNA in 2023 after previous stints with the company dating back to 2004.
Reports indicate Young had recently signed a short-term deal with TNA and signed an NDA as part of the early release. Sources within WWE have suggested he may return to that promotion, though details remain unclear.
