Haven Studios' upcoming PS5 multiplayer heist game Fairgames features a mode called Cargo Heist that resembles extraction shooters like Bungie's Marathon. Insider Gaming detailed the mode's internal description, outlining phases from breaking into a vault to extracting cargo. The report comes as the game continues development despite past delays and leadership changes.
Fairgames, first revealed at a PlayStation Showcase nearly three years ago, incorporates an extraction shooter mode named Cargo Heist. According to Insider Gaming, players enter a map to complete contract objectives, gather loot, and compete for extraction zones to escape. The mode's internal breakdown includes three phases: Break In, where teams find a vault code, collect cash, and upgrade skills; Drill, involving breaching the vault and securing or intercepting cargo; and Extract, requiring transport of cargo to an extraction site or alternative getaway if unsuccessful. A PlayStation Blog post from the reveal described the game as a PvP title with emergent sandbox gameplay that rewards creativity and mastery, generating unique stories per session. Sony acquired Haven Studios in 2022 to develop the first-party PS5 title. The project faced a reported delay last year around the departure of studio head Jade Raymond, followed months later by game director Daniel Drapeau's exit. Despite these changes, Haven recently posted job listings for a lead producer and other roles, signaling ongoing progress amid Bungie's Marathon facing popularity challenges.
