Families of activists Davis Lichuma, Macmillan Kiari and Abdulaziz Molo issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the government on June 28 demanding their release or they would trigger nationwide protests.
The National Police Service confirmed receipt of a missing person report for Davis Lichuma filed at Central Police Station in Nairobi. Police stated they would pursue allegations of enforced disappearances and torture through a thorough and impartial investigation.
Parents spoke at a press conference on June 28 expressing concern over their sons who vanished after arrests during the June 25 protests. Margaret Lichuma said her son visited on June 24 and was arrested the next day.
Retired Chief Justice David Maraga condemned the government for disregarding the constitution and accused police of operating outside the law. Families threatened nationwide demonstrations if their demands are not met.
