Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca defeated Dutchman Jesper de Jong in straight sets at Wimbledon to advance to the third round.
Fonseca won 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 on No. 3 Court. The 19-year-old hit 38 winners and 12 aces while committing three double faults. He won 76 percent of first-serve points and 54 percent of second-serve points, with 15 forehand winners.
In his post-match press conference, Fonseca said the performance ranked among his best on grass so far. He credited strong serving, returning, and net transitions, along with an aggressive mentality from the start.
Fonseca stressed the need for courage and focus on the fast surface. He noted fewer break opportunities for both players and the importance of movement and sliding without fear.
Brazilian supporters in yellow jerseys created a loud atmosphere with chants of his name. Fonseca said he welcomed the support and hoped fans would return for his next match.
