Guards detained in Naucalpan with 37.7 million pesos

Two guards from a cash transport company were detained on December 19 in Naucalpan, Mexico State, while carrying 37.7 million pesos in cash in an armored truck. Authorities could not verify the money's origin and seized firearms, leading to their indictment on financial crimes and illegal weapons possession. They will remain in preventive detention as the investigation continues.

The incident took place on December 19 along Avenida Lomas Verdes in Naucalpan, when officers from the Mexico State Security Secretariat and the Sedena stopped an armored Durango truck driven by Iván ‘N’ and José ‘N’, guards from Águila Bicéfala company.

Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered bags containing 37.7 million pesos in cash, along with two firearms and ammunition. The detainees could not prove the money's legality, resulting in charges for operations with illicit funds, resistance to authority, and illegal weapons possession.

A video of the detention, which spread on social media, shows agents counting the money and ordering the guards to exit the vehicle. Upon refusal, the truck was towed, and the men were taken to the Naucalpan prosecutor's office.

On December 23, a judge ordered preventive detention for both. The defense argued they followed security protocols and provided documents on the money's lawful origin, as well as weapon permits, but the judge deemed it insufficient.

The initial hearing was postponed the previous Friday due to a change in lawyers, allowing new evidence to be introduced, such as videos allegedly showing no speeding or resistance.

Luis Enrique Sánchez, legal representative of Águila Bicéfala, stated: “The goal is to prove that the guards acted within the legal framework and following internal guidelines”.

On December 27, a control judge at Barrientos prison indicted them. They will face formal trial and remain in San Pedro Barrientos prison in Tlalnepantla, with a two-month period for complementary investigation by the Mexico State Attorney General's Office.
