Halo Studios has cancelled its multiplayer project Ekur, according to multiple reports from inside the studio. The decision follows earlier indications that the project would become the next major Halo multiplayer title.
Halo reporter Rebs Gaming first revealed the cancellation on YouTube after speaking with several Halo Studios employees. Windows Central reporter Jez Corden confirmed the information as "100 percent true."
Rebs Gaming had previously reported that Project Ekur would serve as the next multiplayer Halo game. A recent development led to the reversal, with development problems on Halo: Campaign Evolved cited as a possible factor that diverted resources.
The project was prototyped by Certain Affinity and featured customisable Spartans and Elites in large-scale battles. It was greenlit in September 2023 after an earlier battle royale experiment called Tatanka was abandoned.
Halo: Campaign Evolved, which includes co-op but no competitive modes, is scheduled for release in the coming weeks.
