SMHI has issued orange warnings for high temperatures in parts of Götaland. Fire bans are in place on Gotland, in Malmö and Lund due to drought and fire risk.
The European heatwave has reached Sweden. SMHI warns of temperatures up to 35 degrees in southeastern Götaland over the weekend. An orange warning applies from Thursday afternoon until Monday evening in several counties.
Researcher Mare Sundström at Karolinska Institutet explains that the body prioritizes cooling. This leads to negative effects on intelligence and mood. She says people get a shorter fuse and poorer self-control.
Fire bans have been introduced on Gotland from 3 p.m. on June 25. Similar bans apply in Malmö and Lund due to very dry ground. Grilling on one's own property or fixed sites remains permitted.
