Warm and dry weather has caused very high or extreme fire risk in southern Sweden up to Dalarna and Gästrikland as well as along the Norrland coast.

A forest fire burned on Thursday at Finnsjön in Strängnäs municipality. The fire started in the morning and covered about one hectare.

Two helicopters assisted in the firefighting. By 19:00 there were no longer open flames, according to the rescue service.

SMHI meteorologist Marie Stark urges the public to check for fire bans and exercise caution. The risk is expected to decrease over the weekend as rain moves in over Götaland and Svealand.
