Kenya Railways Corporation has issued a tender to buy 24 Diesel Multiple Unit air compressors under a World Bank-backed initiative to improve Nairobi commuter rail services.
The tender was announced on May 12 under the Kenya Urban Mobility Improvement Project. It seeks suppliers worldwide through international competitive bidding.
The compressors will power essential train functions including brakes, doors, wipers and horns. They must maintain safe pressure levels for reliable operations.
All units are to be delivered to Kenya Railways Nairobi Central Workshops Stores for installation on the existing fleet. Bids require a Ksh1.5 million security and must arrive by June 11, 2026.
This follows the cancellation of a similar World Bank tender in April. The process adheres to the bank's procurement rules for investment projects.
