Knec flags fake report on mass recruitment drive

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has labeled as fake a viral news item claiming a mass recruitment drive. In a clarification, KNEC warned against fake recruitment agents and misinformation. The council stressed that vacancies are only advertised on its official website and the MyGov publication.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued a warning on November 17, 2025, after a popular news site circulated a report on social media about an ongoing mass recruitment drive. KNEC described the item as fake and urged Kenyans to exercise due diligence when applying for jobs amid prevalent fake recruitment agents.

"Beware of agents of fake news and misinformation. Do not be misled," the council stated in a notice. It added, "All available vacancies are always declared through our website and the MyGov publication," referring to the government publication issued every Tuesday.

The last legitimate recruitment by KNEC occurred on June 10, 2025, seeking assessors for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) oral and practical tests. Applications were open for 50 days to secondary school teachers and college tutors in eight subjects: power mechanics, electricity, aviation technology, French oral, German oral, Arabic oral, Kenyan Sign Language Signing Practical, and Music practical. Selected candidates would receive on-the-job training during the assessment of the 2025 KCSE examination papers.

The recent fake banner appeared five months after the June announcement, prompting KNEC's swift clarification. To verify job opportunities, KNEC advised confirming openings on official company websites, along with email addresses and contact details listed in advertisements, whether for public or private sector roles.
