Lionel Richie has postponed his June 26 concert in Chicago and June 27 show in Columbus, Ohio, after cutting short a performance in St. Paul, Minnesota, on his doctors' advice.
The 77-year-old singer’s team issued a statement saying he is following medical guidance to rest and recover. “Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans,” the statement read.
Richie left the stage early during the Wednesday night concert in St. Paul, which opened his co-headlining tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. He had told the audience he felt dizzy and performed “Dancing on the Ceiling” while seated before ending the show after less than an hour.
Saxophonist Dino Soldo announced the cancellation to the 10,000 fans, citing Richie’s condition. A local fire department confirmed an adult male was transported from the arena to a hospital. Richie is expected to resume performing on June 30 in Pittsburgh.
