Matteo Berrettini has reported no serious injury after his French Open quarterfinal withdrawal and is targeting a return at Wimbledon later this month.
The Italian sustained a hip injury during his quarterfinal match against Matteo Arnaldi at the French Open. He retired while trailing 5-7, 2-5. Berrettini posted on Instagram that scans showed no significant muscle damage. “I’m already working on my rehab with the goal of getting to Wimbledon in the best shape possible,” he wrote. His strong grass-court record includes a 2021 Wimbledon final appearance. However, his current ranking may force him into qualifying for the main draw, as the entry deadline has passed. Berrettini last played qualifiers at the 2018 Australian Open. Wimbledon begins later this month.
