Matthew Michael Carnahan set to direct The Gatekeeper

Matthew Michael Carnahan will direct The Gatekeeper, an adaptation of James Byrne's novel Deadlock, for Amazon MGM Studios and Di Bonaventura Pictures.

The project follows Desmond “Dez” Aloysius Limerick, an unconventional ex-operative who uncovers a vast conspiracy after saving a reporter's life.

Brian Helgeland is adapting the screenplay. The character first appeared in Byrne's novel The Gatekeeper, but the film draws primarily from the second book in the series, Deadlock.

Di Bonaventura Pictures and Pouya Shahbazian are producing. Carnahan previously directed Mosul and wrote World War Z and Deepwater Horizon.
