Morena's parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies set regulation of social networks and artificial intelligence use as a legislative priority for the next session period.
According to the document “Temas legislativos por abordarse en el primer periodo ordinario del tercer año de ejercicio de la LXVI Legislatura”, the discussion will analyze the operation, control, risks and benefits of these technologies, with emphasis on mental health and digital addiction among girls, boys and adolescents.
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced on July 10 that the federal government will start a public debate process on the regulation of artificial intelligence and digital platforms once the World Cup ends on July 19. Sheinbaum noted that excessive screen use creates serious problems in the development of minors.
Federal deputy Ricardo Monreal has a proposal related to artificial intelligence. Morena also contemplates reforms to the Federal Copyright Law and the Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property, as well as an anti-corruption package driven by the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat.
