Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit to use intelligence-led systems

The Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit will employ intelligence-led systems to detect and prevent crime as a pilot to modernise the National Police Service.

The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja revealed the plans during a benchmarking tour to the Japan National Police Agency and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department on Wednesday. Kanja was accompanied by Director General of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin and other officials. The focus was on intelligence-led and community-oriented policing along with technology integration. The unit forms part of a government initiative ordered by President Ruto. It will serve as a model for specialised metropolitan policing in Kenya. NPS stated that creating a Metropolitan Police Command supported by strong community-based policing forms a key government initiative.
