Neiva inaugurates skate rink lighting with 460 million pesos investment

The Public Lighting and Technological Developments Company (ESIP) inaugurated the lighting system at Neiva's skate rink with a 460 million peso investment. The project extends training hours for children, youth, and adults, enhancing safety and sports conditions. The event drew nearly a thousand people, featuring a skating show.

Neiva bolstered its sports infrastructure by inaugurating lighting at the skate rink next to Mercaneiva. Carried out by ESIP, the project involved installing over 70 reflectors, more than 4,000 meters of electrical wiring, poles, and systems based on photometry studies for optimal sports lighting. Finished in under four months, it addresses a long-standing community need, as the venue was previously usable only daytime due to lack of light and high temperatures harming athletes' health, particularly children and youth. The event gathered nearly a thousand attendees, including parents, coaches, skaters from various clubs, media, and residents, who saw the official lights switch-on and a skating show by local students. Mayor Germán Casagua stated: “People had been wanting the skate rink lighting for a long time. We committed with ESIP to install it and achieved it in less than four months.” He noted the Sports Secretariat will handle maintenance, with the municipality ensuring permanent surveillance. ESIP manager Diego Alejandro Pérez Pineda said: “Today we deliver a fully functional venue at night, thanks to reflectors, wiring, and electrical systems designed to meet sports needs.” He highlighted extended training hours, improved performance, and reduced risks in surrounding dark areas. Parents including Karol Yesenia Murcia, José Rojas, and Henry González praised the project for enabling comfortable training and supporting youth sports. This upgrade advances secure spaces for local sports development.
