The National Prosecuting Authority in Mpumalanga has filed an application for leave to appeal orders of contempt of court and a warrant of arrest against State Prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba.
The move follows Ntaba’s failure to appear in court to oppose a bail application in an extortion and money laundering case involving businessman and taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni along with three co-accused.
National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andy Mothibi has appointed a legal team led by senior counsel to advise on the next steps after the matter was struck off the roll.
NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago stated that the appeal suspends the orders until the application is heard and that written reasons from the magistrate have been requested to support further proceedings.
