Large amounts of oil have leaked into Kvillebäcken on Hisingen in Göteborg. Rescue services were alerted to the site on Sunday morning and cleanup work is underway.
According to authorities the oil has spread just over one and a half kilometers along the stream. It is unclear how much oil is involved and where it came from.
Peter Johansson at the rescue service said one theory is that the spill may be linked to the heavy rain that arrived on Saturday.
Several birds are reported to have become stuck in the oil and the animal ambulance has been on site. Cleanup work continues on Monday in collaboration with the urban environment administration, the environmental administration and the police.
