Judson Defir, 43, was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual abuse and no contest to kidnapping and attempted rape in a March attack on a mother holding her 10-month-old baby inside their Portland home.
The incident unfolded in Portland's South Tabor neighborhood while the victim's husband worked in the yard outside. Defir entered the home uninvited, said "honey, I'm here," and forced the woman across the hallway into a bedroom while she held the infant.
Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez described the event at sentencing last week as "absolutely a nightmare scenario by every account." Defir had also touched a woman at a nearby church and grabbed two others on the street minutes earlier.
Defir told the court he smoked methamphetamine before the attack. His lawyer, Elizabeth Wolozin, said the incident was "horrifying and extremely sobering for him" and that he is now motivated to avoid the drug.
"I wish I could change the past, but I can't," Defir said. "I can only change the future and do better in the future."
