Swedish forward Oskar Sundqvist has agreed to stay in the NHL for another season after Luleå left the door open for a return. The veteran signed a one-year, two-way deal with the St. Louis Blues worth 850000 dollars.
Luleå in the SHL will have to wait for a possible return by Sundqvist. Club sports chief Thomas Fröberg had previously expressed interest in bringing the player back if he left North America.
Sundqvist recorded 17 points in 52 games last season before joining Tre Kronor for the world championship. His tournament ended early after an injury from a knee-on-knee hit by Timo Meier.
The new contract keeps the 32-year-old in the NHL for at least one more year.
