Phillies No. 4 prospect Aroon Escobar hit a two-run homer on Sunday to give Double-A Reading a 9-4 win over Altoona. The second baseman inscribed a message of support for his native Venezuela on his wristband following recent earthquakes that killed more than 1,400 people.
Escobar, born in Caracas, wrote "Venezuela together." in Spanish on his left wristband after the quakes struck on Wednesday with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. He delivered the go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh inning at Peoples Natural Gas Field, breaking a 4-4 tie.
It was Escobar's second homer in three days. He had hit a three-run shot on Friday in a 9-1 Reading victory, marking his first home run since May 26.
Hundreds of Major League and Minor League players from Venezuela have shown support after the disaster, including Brewers catcher William Contreras.
