Addis Ababa, Miyazya 20, 2018 (Fana) — Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed told a panel discussion titled “Social development lesson for national growth” that the government has subsidized fuel by 20 billion birr per month to tackle the global fuel crisis in recent months.
He noted a 100 percent additional subsidy in the past two months. Due to security issues in the Middle East, other countries' airlines have reduced fares, the PM said, but Ethiopian Airlines has not lowered prices despite the support.
The Prime Minister's Office stated Ethiopia has undertaken broad systemic reforms in social and economic sectors. Achievements include new education curriculum in education, digital health in health, job opportunities for over 8 million from 19 million in employment, economic and political participation for 26.8 million women and 4.3 million youth, and in culture and sports 83 international awards plus new stadiums.
Ministers Shewit Shanka, Dr. Ergoe Tesfaye, and Mufariat Kamil detailed their sectors' results.
