Sael Silva Cisneros, a researcher at the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation and human rights activist, was killed in an armed attack on Friday night in Cuajinicuilapa, Guerrero.
The events took place around 21:00 hours on the Acapulco-Pinotepa Nacional federal highway, in front of the Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico Agropecuario. Silva Cisneros, originally from San Nicolás, had participated that day in a seminar on Afro-Mexican dissidences, justice and human rights in the municipal seat. A group of people was gathered outside a beer sales establishment when armed men opened fire with long guns. In addition to the researcher's death, another person was injured and taken to a hospital, while others suffered minor injuries. Civil organizations and LGBTQ+ collectives expressed condolences and recognized his work in defending human rights. So far, the Fiscalía General of the state of Guerrero has not issued statements on the investigation.
