Juan Guillermo Barrera Pinilla, known as ‘Juangui’, died Monday afternoon at the Uros clinic in Neiva after being shot on April 30. Authorities are investigating the case as a possible settling of scores. With this death, Neiva has recorded 26 homicides so far this year.
Barrera Pinilla, aged 28, received multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back while inside a motorcycle repair shop on carrera 4 with calle 3 in Neiva’s comuna Cuatro. Two men on a motorcycle carried out the attack; one, wearing a helmet to hide his identity, opened fire without warning and fled. The wounded man was taken to the Uros clinic, where he remained in intensive care until his death at 5:50 p.m. on Monday.
Investigations point to a settling of scores linked to the victim’s criminal record. Barrera Pinilla had prior charges for homicide, illegal weapons possession and other offenses, and had been released a month earlier due to expiration of legal terms. He was linked to two previous homicides that occurred in 2024 and 2025.
The incident brings the total number of homicides recorded in Neiva in 2026 to 26, an 8.33 % increase compared with the same period last year. Officers from the Metropolitan Police continue reviewing security cameras and witness statements to identify and arrest those responsible.
