Defending champion Tete Dijana says he is determined to win the 105th Comrades Marathon on Sunday. More than 21,000 runners are expected for the 50th up-run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
Tete Dijana spoke at a media briefing in Durban. He said his mindset to win begins during training. “I’m coming here, like every runner to win,” Dijana said. He added that he is not focused on records but will assess the race as it unfolds.
Edward Mothibi, who finished fourth last year, said he is focused on his own target. Mothibi noted that the route is shorter this year but his training has stayed the same. He said only God will tell on race day if he achieves what he wants.
Organisers have introduced a three-group start format and other safety measures for the 85.777km race. Comrades Marathon Association general manager Alain Dalais said the changes aim to reduce congestion and improve runner experience. The first group of about 10,000 runners, including elites, starts at 5am on Sunday from Durban City Hall.
