Toy Story 5 achieved the biggest global debut of the year with $312 million in its opening weekend. The Pixar film earned $160 million in the United States and Canada along with $152 million overseas.
The opening stands as the largest for any film in the Toy Story series. It surpassed the previous record set by Toy Story 4, which collected $238 million worldwide in 2019.
Andrew Stanton directed the movie, which follows Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the other toys as their owner Bonnie grows attached to a new tablet device. The film carries a reported budget of $250 million.
Other releases also reached notable figures. Obsession passed $333 million globally while Backrooms reached $301 million worldwide. Michael has earned $959 million to date.
