Twelve staff members at Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen have been isolated for six weeks following procedural errors while treating a hantavirus patient.
The facility announced on Monday that procedural errors occurred during a blood draw and the disposal of the patient’s urine. Radboud University Medical Center stated the infection risk remains low but opted for quarantine as a precaution.
The patient involved is among those evacuated from the cruise ship MV Hondius. The hospital noted that the twelve staff members will remain isolated for six weeks.
“Due to these circumstances, twelve employees will be placed in quarantine for six weeks as a precaution, even though the risk of infection is low,” the hospital said in a statement.
