Vince Staples has revealed details of his new album, Cry Baby, set for release on June 5. The project marks his debut with Loma Vista in partnership with his own Section Eight Arthouse label. Staples described it as the start of a more independent era built around live instrumentation.
Vince Staples shared that Cry Baby ushers in a new phase of autonomy following releases tied to Def Jam and Blacksmith, the label co-founded by Talib Kweli. His previous album, Dark Times, arrived in 2024. Loma Vista operates under Concord Music Group. Staples stated, “As the world burns, I have decided to release this album.” The lead single, “Blackberry Marmalade,” dropped on Sunday alongside a first-person shooter-style video co-directed by Staples and Bradley J. Calder. Staples noted the YouTube age restriction on the video, saying, “YouTube has age-restricted the Blackberry Marmalade video, so if you are over the age of 18, make sure to share it with the youth around you. Our children deserve the truth.” Cry Baby features tracks including “Go! Go! Gorilla,” “White Flag,” “The Running Man,” “TV Guide,” “The Big Bad Wolf,” “Only in America,” “Do You Know the Devil,” “Cotton,” and “7 in the Morning.”
