Vince Staples kündigt neues Album Cry Baby für Juni an

Vince Staples hat Details zu seinem neuen Album Cry Baby bekannt gegeben, das am 5. Juni erscheinen soll. Das Projekt markiert sein Debüt bei Loma Vista in Zusammenarbeit mit seinem eigenen Label Section Eight Arthouse. Staples beschrieb es als den Beginn einer unabhängigeren Ära, die auf Live-Instrumentierung setzt.

Vince Staples erklärte, dass Cry Baby eine neue Phase der Eigenständigkeit einläutet, nachdem seine vorherigen Veröffentlichungen bei Def Jam und Blacksmith, dem von Talib Kweli mitbegründeten Label, erschienen waren. Sein letztes Album, Dark Times, kam 2024 heraus. Loma Vista agiert unter der Concord Music Group. Staples kommentierte: „Während die Welt brennt, habe ich mich dazu entschlossen, dieses Album zu veröffentlichen.“ Die erste Single „Blackberry Marmalade“ erschien am Sonntag zusammen mit einem Video im First-Person-Shooter-Stil, bei dem Staples gemeinsam mit Bradley J. Calder Regie führte. Staples wies auf die Altersbeschränkung des Videos bei YouTube hin und sagte: „YouTube hat das Video zu Blackberry Marmalade mit einer Altersbeschränkung versehen. Wenn du also über 18 bist, teile es mit den jungen Leuten in deinem Umfeld. Unsere Kinder verdienen die Wahrheit.“ Auf Cry Baby sind unter anderem die Titel „Go! Go! Gorilla“, „White Flag“, „The Running Man“, „TV Guide“, „The Big Bad Wolf“, „Only in America“, „Do You Know the Devil“, „Cotton“ und „7 in the Morning“ enthalten.
