Wisconsin mother charged after baby drowns in bathtub

A 1-year-old baby in Janesville, Wisconsin, died after being left alone in a filling bathtub. The mother faces additional charges related to the death.

Rebecca Ambrose, 27, was charged with child neglect causing death in addition to two counts of child neglect. Her partner, Jason Christianson, 26, faces two counts of child neglect.

Police responded to the couple's home on June 13 after the baby was found unresponsive. Prosecutors said Ambrose placed the baby in the tub, started filling it with water, and then left the house. She allegedly spent about 30 minutes outside scrolling on Snapchat and TikTok.

Christianson was asleep during the incident. Emergency crews performed lifesaving measures, but the baby was pronounced dead at the hospital. Ambrose remains in custody on $10,000 bond, while Christianson posted $1,000 cash bond and was released. Both are scheduled to appear in court again on July 17.
