A wolf was injured by a gunshot in Tierp on 1 July after entering a horse pasture. The animal owner acted in line with hunting regulations, according to the County Board.
The incident took place in the Ingsjön wolf territory. Despite repeated warning shots the wolf remained and continued to focus on the horses. The animal owner then fired a shot that hit the wolf, after which it fled.
The County Administrative Board of Uppsala was called to the scene. Searches were carried out the same evening and the following day without locating the wolf. Small amounts of blood were found both at the shooting site and during tracking.
The authority assesses that the owner first tried to scare the wolf away but then acted according to the regulations. Blood samples will now be analysed and wildlife cameras reviewed to identify the individual and assess the injuries.
