A 38-year-old man died in the night from Wednesday to Thursday in Saint-Étienne after being beaten by about a dozen individuals on Tuesday evening in the Beaubrun neighborhood. A 38-year-old man living alone in Saint-Étienne was beaten on Tuesday evening in a street in the popular Beaubrun neighborhood. Witnesses called firefighters and the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC), who attended before he was taken to hospital. At that point, his vital prognosis was "not engaged," according to a police source.

He died in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The autopsy concluded that kicks to the head and neck were the probable cause of death, police and judicial sources told AFP.

Saint-Étienne prosecutors opened an investigation for intentional homicide in a group, assigned to the Territorial Criminality Directorate (DCT). No suspects have been arrested so far. "The origin of this outburst of violence is not yet formally established," said a source close to the investigation.
