Agriculture and investment ministers agree on Rp371 trillion downstreaming

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and Investment Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani have agreed to accelerate downstreaming in the agriculture sector up to livestock with a Rp371 trillion investment. The agreement follows President Prabowo Subianto's directive to strengthen national food sovereignty. The finalization meeting was held in Jakarta on Friday.

In a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman announced an agreement with Investment and Downstreaming Minister as well as Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani to accelerate downstreaming in agriculture, plantations, horticulture, and livestock sectors. This step aims to strengthen the value chain from upstream to downstream, so that leading commodities like coconut, cocoa, cashew, palm oil, and coconut palm have high added value, benefiting farmers and herders, and enhancing export competitiveness.

Amran stated, "This is based on the directive from Mr. President (Prabowo Subianto), we are carrying out downstreaming together with the Investment Minister and Danantara CEO. Well, the total planned investment is approximately Rp371 trillion." Downstreaming is expected to transform coconut export value from Rp24 trillion to up to Rp2,400 trillion if domestic industrial processing is optimized. For instance, in North Maluku, coconut prices rose from Rp600 to Rp3,500 per fruit after the processing program began. The project is targeted to absorb 3 million new workers in plantations, livestock, and horticulture over the next four years.

Rosan explained that the finalization meeting resulted from repeated discussions reaching consensus to drive investment realization. "We have reached an agreement, where this realization program, especially in livestock, plantations, and agriculture, will be pushed and accelerated in accordance with the President's directive to us," he said. As a strategic government partner, Danantara will provide full support, including evaluation and field implementation acceleration, so the programs directly impact society. All programs have been comprehensively identified by the Ministry of Agriculture and will be followed up by designated SOEs to meet targets on time.
