Al-Sisi reviews Damietta Port upgrades and major transport projects

Officials addressed the expansion of environmentally friendly public transport, including the second phase of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Minister Al-Wazir provided updates on river bus services across Greater Cairo, preparations for the East Nile monorail, advances in the high-speed electric rail network, and plans for the sixth metro line. The meeting covered rerouting sections of the Alexandria-Matrouh railway line as part of efforts to modernise Egypt's rail network. Attention turned to strategies for advancing the maritime transport sector, aiming to position Egypt as a regional hub for logistics and transit trade via port expansions, new berths, and deepened navigation channels. Minister Al-Wazir highlighted ongoing cooperation with African countries such as Djibouti and Tanzania on joint transport projects. Al-Sisi emphasised the need to complete all transport projects on schedule and to the highest standards, particularly public transport systems, to enhance services, attract investment, boost tourism, localise transport industries, and leverage existing infrastructure for economic growth and job creation.
