Jalooni Blackshear, an Alaska corrections officer, was sentenced to 150 years in prison on Tuesday for the murders of his wife and daughter.
Jalooni Blackshear pleaded guilty to shooting his wife Raechyl Blackshear, 35, and their 14-year-old daughter Jayla in the head. The killings took place in Anchorage after Jayla had accused her father of sexual abuse. The Anchorage Police Department began investigating on March 30, 2022. Blackshear convinced his wife to bring Jayla back to police three days later in an attempt to recant the accusation. That was the last time the victims were seen alive. Bodies were discovered on April 15, 2022, after Raechyl missed a doctor's appointment. Prosecutors said Blackshear fled east, used the victims' phones to impersonate them, and was arrested in Staten Island, New York. Superior Court Judge Josie Garton noted years of physical and sexual violence by Blackshear. She described his post-murder communications as depraved, cruel and calculated.
