After Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said in late February that the company would not allow its Claude model to be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons, senior Pentagon officials said they have no intention of using AI for domestic surveillance and insist that private firms cannot set binding limits on how the U.S. military employs AI tools.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged at the center of modern warfare, playing an operational support role in the recent U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran. Anthropic's Claude and Palantir's Gotham were used for intelligence assessments and target identification. Experts predict further expansion of AI in military applications.

PLA Daily published a commentary on Thursday stating that AI use in the Iran war marks the first integration across the full cycle of operations, demonstrating its vast potential and strategic value in the military domain. The article called AI a 'core engine' reshaping warfare and urged the People's Liberation Army to rapidly transform for combat advantage.

Former French Prime Minister Michel Barnier called, in a televised interview on March 8, for managing the fallout from US and Israeli strikes in Iran, emphasizing the need to ramp up arms production to avert a future shortage. He criticized the lack of a European defense policy and proposed an active role for France in the region.

In the wake of Anthropic's unveiling of its powerful Claude Mythos AI—capable of detecting and exploiting software vulnerabilities—the US Treasury Secretary has convened top bank executives to highlight escalating AI-driven cyber threats. The move underscores growing concerns as the AI is restricted to a tech coalition via Project Glasswing.

The US-led military operation against Iran, launched on February 28, has entered its second week, prompting fluctuations in global oil prices and the exodus of thousands of Afghans and Pakistanis from the country. President Donald Trump described the conflict as ahead of schedule and largely complete, while Iranian officials issued mixed signals amid leadership fragmentation. Democrats and media outlets have labeled it a potential 'forever war,' calling for congressional approval.

The attack on Iran has driven up electricity and gasoline prices, risking new inflation and a weaker business cycle in Sweden. Lars Calmfors warns that politicians may be tempted by populist measures. The war resembles the 1970s oil shocks but with modern differences.
