The elimination of the wine tax took effect after resolution 55 from the Agriculture Secretariat. Journalist José Luis Belluscio warned that the move boosts bulk wine exports and risks local industry and jobs.
Resolution 55 from the Agriculture Secretariat under the Economy Ministry made the elimination of the tax administered by COVIAR official. The measure was communicated to the National Viticulture Institute and the levy is no longer collected.
Belluscio noted that the Argentine Viticulture Corporation reacted immediately with strong opposition. A pending amparo request in the courts could lead to judicialization of the conflict.
Exports in April 2026 grew, yet the main driver was bulk wine with an 82.7 percent jump. Bottled wine recorded only 4.7 percent growth.
The specialist explained that bottling creates intensive employment and activates a local supply chain that includes labels, corks and logistics. Shipping in bulk transfers that added value abroad.
